Comments (English): When we arrived to this hostel about 11 p.m was nobody inside...i reserved this hostel by "Hostel Traveler", i payd something and i wanted to rest for 4 days.....but was inpossible. Nobody opened the door, nobody answered the telephone. We had to find, almost in the night other (of course more expensive) hotel. Next day we came back and try to talk with somebody, finally after calling 10 times some man picked up and say the will be open after 2 hours (!!!??). We had to wait. And finally when we got a room, was good and clean, price was 35euro for a night for 2 persons (in july), this man (owner? i don't know) was very polite and he was telling something about this that is new owner of this hostel....wasn't so bad but i will never come back to this place again.

Comments (English): I spent three months in Italy for a short sabbatical and found this hotel listed on one of the sites. The owner's name is Dai and after a somewhat rough trip, it was refreshing to be around another English speaker. The place is exceptionally clean, very quiet and nicely decorated. It was a great place to take a hot shower, as some of the previous rentals had only a bathtub or the hot water didn't work. I rented a room with the shared bathroom but it was clean and there are spray bottles of disinfectant and bleach if you'd like to wipe down the shower before you use it.
I was there for two weeks and used the time to just hop on the buses, explore the museums and shops. I went to a few restaurants, churches etc; typical touristy stuff. Later during that week, I took day trips to Pisa, Florence, Sienna, and Lucca. It was easy because the train station was within walking distance.
The interior is well kept with fairly new furniture. There is a vanity sink in the room if you just want to wash your makeup off or brush your teeth. I think they wash the used towels while they are cleaning your room because they always smelled fresh.
There's no kitchen at the facility but there is a beverage machine for hot coffee, tea, etc and she recently purchased a cereal dispenser which was great. Initially, she would put out the prepackaged cakes just so that you could have something but I prefer the cereal.
I didn't watch TV while I was there, although there was a small TV in the room. During my stay another couple from Texas came in and Dai introduced us. The were traveling through on bikes. It was a very laid back safe place and I felt as if I was at home. I returned a second time before going back to the states, so that I could use the shower! I do plan to visit again in the future.

Comments (English): I enjoyed staying at the Houston Hotel Italia in Livorno, Italy. The lady is an American from New York and the husband is Italian. Very nice couple. Both of them were willing to do whatever was necessary to help you have a good time and to understand what was available in the Livorno area to do. The mattresses are a bit thin but the rooms were clean and the hotels rules allow one to get plenty of sleep. I would definitely recommend staying here. However I would not try to book through this website though because it is expensive and when I showed up at the Hotel they did not have record of my reservation. Luckily they had a spot for me. Other than that I liked the place.
