AMANS HOTELS OFFER YOU :
1:A TOUR TO MOUNT KILIMANJARO
Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, now attracts many thousands of walkers each year.
General information
Many travellers are attracted to the highest point in Africa - Uhuru Peak on Kibo - which can be reached by several easy walking or scrambling routes. The two main summits of Kilimanjaro: craggy Mawenzi, 5149m, and 'flat-topped', Kibo, 5896m are separated by The Saddle, a 5km wide, high-altitude, semi-desert. From the summit glaciers, screes, cliffs, afro-alpine moorland then forests lead down to the cultivated foothills below.
The main routes to Kibo are:
The Marangu Route offers walking on gentle forest and moorland paths up to 4700m. Above, scree leads to Gillman's Point on the often snowy crater rim which is followed to Uhuru Peak. Accommodation is in huts.
The Machame and Umbwe Routes are tougher. Steep forest paths, easy scrambling and airy ridges lead to the final screes and hence the crater. Nights are spent in tents.
The MwekA Route is generally used to descend after either of the last two routes.
The Shira, Nanjara and Rongai (Oloitokitok) Routes are more remote but can be organised by us, the Rongai Route is popular with those looking for a less demending route but away from the busy Marangu Route.. The remote Lemosho Glades Route , is particularly beautiful and goes through one of the few areas on Kilimanjaro that is rich in game.
MOUNT MERU ROUTE
Meru is a stratovolcano in Tanzania. It has quite an explosive history, having erupted for times. The most recent eruption occurred in 1910. Lava erupting from Meru varies from thin flows to thick intrusive domes.
The main cone of the volcano has a caldera which is 2. 2 miles (3. 5 km) in diameter. It has a huge breach on its eastern side. A graben runs down the side of the volcano from this breach. Many debris flows came through the breach in the caldera. These cover 1500sq km to the north-east, east and south-east. Following the eruption of this debris, a lava dome and ash cone grew on the floor of the caldera.
The route to the summit of Mount Meru passes through Arusha National Park. Over 400 species of animals roam the lower slopes of the volcano; these include birds, rhino, elephant, buffalo, baboon, warthog, black and white colobus monkey and duiker.
A visit to Ngurdoto Crater and Momella Lake offers superb scenery with flamingos and other wildlife. Accommodation on this ascent in dormitory styled huts. Hiking to the summit of Mount Meru is over terrain which is often steep and could prove to be a tough challenge for some.
Day 1 – Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut ( 2, 740 m):
Transfer from Moshi or Arusha to Arusha National Park. Walk to Miriakamba ( 2, 740 m). this takes 4 – 5 hours with picnic lunch, dinner and overnight Miriakamba Hut.
Day 2 – Miriakamba (2 740 m) to Saddle Hut ( 3 500 m):
After breakfast proceed to the Saddle Hut (3, 500 m) this takes 3 – 4 hours dinner and overnight Saddle Hut.
Day 3 – Saddle Hut (3, 500 m) to Socialist Peak ( 4, 562 m) to Momella Gate:
Around midnight you head into the dark cold night towards the summit (4, 562 m). After absorbed the spectacular views and have taken your summit pictures you descent to Saddle for Lunch then to Momella gate transferred to your hotel.
o: KILIMANJARO MARANGU ROUTE
The Marangu Route is also known as the "Coca Cola" or "tourist" route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every camp site with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow. There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. Mens' and ladies' latrines are available at the last camp but are very basic.
All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. Soft drinks, bottled water, and beer may be for
sale at the huts. Bring small Tanzanian bills to purchase these items (prices increase with elevation).
This route is usually done on 5 days but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.
Marangu Itinerary
Moshi 815m / 2670ft Booked into your hotel in Moshi for overnight and briefing from your guide.
DAY 1To Mandara Hut1700m to 2740m5500ft to 9000ft7 km, 4-5 hoursMontane Forest After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (45 minutes), register and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment located at 9000 ft / 2740 m. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colubus monkeys.
DAY 2To Horombo Camp2700m to 3700m9000ft to 12, 100ft11 km, 6-8 hoursHeathland After about 1 hour, you will leave the glades of the rainforest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and grounsels. You will start to feel the affects of the altitude. If you wish to extend you trek, here you can spend an extra day resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.
DAY 3To Kibo Camp3700m to 4700m12, 100ft to 15, 400ft10 km, 6-8 hoursAlpine Desert Ascending, we now pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Vegetation begins with upper heathland but then disappears into "moonscape". Dinner, rest, and prepare for summit climb.
DAY 4To Summit and Horombo4700m to 5895m(and down to 3700m)15, 400ft to 19, 300ft(and down to 12, 100ft)4 km up / 14 km down10-15 hoursAlpine Desert Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman's point located on the crater rim at 18640 ft / 5861 m (4-7 hours). Continuing, we now ascend to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa: 19340 ft / 5895 m (1-2 hours). Unbelievable views at every turn. Get your picture taken at the summit to show your friends. From here, we now descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment for dinner and a tired but happy overnight (1-2 hours). This beginning of this climb is done in the dark and requires headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you will need all of your warm layers. This is, by far, the most difficult part of the trek with many switchbacks. "Pole pole" and an optimistic attitude will get you there!
DAY 5To Moshi3700m to 1700m12, 100ft to 5500ft18km, 5-7 hours After breakfast, A steady descent takes us down through moorland to Mandara Hut (2700m / 8858 ft), the first stopping place at the Marangu route. Continue descending through lovely lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu (1830 m / 6004 ft). At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will meet you at Marangu village to drive you back to your hotel iAmans Bountique &BedBreakfast n Moshi.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
This phenomenal National Park, created to preserve the path of the world’s largest migration
circuit, covers nearly 15, 000 square kilometres.
The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai name meaning ‘endless plains’, and these rolling
distances of short grass plains provide an exceptional landscape for wildlife viewing; it is ultimate
safari country.
NGORONGORO NATIONAL PARK
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the world's greatest natural spectacles, its magical setting and abundant wildlife never fail to enthral visitors. It borders the Serengeti National Park to the north and west. A few hours drive to the east takes you to the town of Arusha which nestles at the foot of Mount Meru, within view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arusha is known as the gateway to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Northern Parks.
Called the eighth wonder of the world and stretching across some 8, 300 sq km, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania boasts a blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeology that is unsurpassed in Africa. The volcanoes, grasslands, waterfalls and mountain forests are home to an abundance of animals and to the Maasai.
TARANGIRE NATI ONAL PARKThe fierce sun sucks the moisture from the landscape, baking the earth a dusty red, the withered grass as brittle as straw. The Tarangire River has shrivelled to a shadow of its wet season self. But it is choked with wildlife. Thirsty nomads have wandered hundreds of parched kilometres knowing that here, always, there is water.
Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed. About Tarangire National Park
Size: 2850 sq km (1, 096 sq miles).
Location: 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha. Getting there
Easy drive from Arusha or Lake Manyara following a surfaced road to within 7km (four miles) of the main entrance gate; can continue on to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Charter flights from Arusha and the serengeti
.
LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
The name “Manyara” derives from the plant Euphobiatirucalli from which the Maasai build a hedge to protect their livestock from predators and poachers. In the Maasai language Maa, “emanyara” means a kraal. Covering 330 sq. kms, the park lies between the 600m escarpment of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara thus noted for its incredible beauty. It is famous for tree climbing lions and natural hot Sulphur springs called "Maji Moto" (Hot Water).
Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, incredible bird life, and breathtaking views. The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of bird life that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo stoop and graze by the thousands, colourful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park. Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is well worth a stop in its own right. Its ground water forests, bush plains, baobab strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds. The extraordinary birdlife has made this place world-renowned among ornithologists, who come to observe the masses of pink flamingos and birds of prey.

Activities
Sightseeing - Tanzania is indeed Unsurpassed Africa in the bounty of its wildlife and the beauty of the land: Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain; all of Africa’s Great Lakes; the best game parks in the world; hiking and nature trails such as the Usambara Mountains; the fabulous island of Zanzibar.
Water sports - With its long Indian Ocean coast and its shores on the Great Lakes, Tanzania is a dream world for water enthusiasts: big-game fishing, freshwater fishing, diving, snorkeling, swimming and just relaxing on the beaches.
Shopping - Locally made products are available at good prices: batiks, Tingatinga paintings, carvings (especially the Makonde artwork), basket ware, jewelers of all kinds, textiles, and more.
Inter-continental flights serve Dar es Salaam, eight miles from the city center, and Kilimanjaro, 31 miles from Arusha. Zanzibar Airport is five miles from town.
The protection of nature is everyone’s concern. On safari do not collect or buy bones, skins, homs, teeth, feathers, or shells. And on the coast do not bring back coral, shells, or starfish, which play an important role in the fragile ecosystem. Do not litter where others are expected to visit.
The protection of cultures is also everyone’s concern. The guides know the local habits and customs. It is always advisable to ask someone’s permission before taking his or her photograph.
Best Time to Visit
The Tanzanian climate is tropical. The central plateau is dry and arid with hot days and cool nights, while the northwest highlands are cool and temperate. June to September is the cooler season. The “long rains’ are from-March to May and the “short rains” are between October and December. The hottest months are between October and February. On the coast, it rains in November and December and from March to May. Coastal areas are hot and humid although sea breezes coo the area pleasantly between June and September.
Clothing
For safaris in the north, during the day, light clothing. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Canvas hats. At night, casual wear with a light cardigan or a pull over (for altitudes between 1500m in Arusha and 2400m in Ngorongoro). On the coast, summer wear. For Kilimanjaro or other treks, check with a mountain specialist before departure. To bring: sunscreen, lotions, sunglasses, mosquito cream and binoculars.
On safari, avoid brightly colored clothes, they may alarm the animals, browns, beiges and khaki are preferred. Short-sleeve shirts/blouses and shorts are ideal, but pack a sweater, it can be chilly in the early morning and in the evening. Don’t forget a swimsuit. Immodest clothing will offend local tradition.
Currency
The basic unit is the Tanzanian shilling. It advisable to carry American dollars. Moneychangers also accept the major convertible currencies including the yen. Travelers’ cheques are exchangeable in some places. Major credit cards are accepted in the larger hotels but it is advisable to carry cash.
Visitors can take in any amount of foreign currency and no currency declaration is required. But import and export of Tanzanian currency is illegal. Foreign currency in cash or travelers’ cheques may be exchanged at any branch of the commercial banks or through authorized dealers and at Bureaux de Change (“forex bureaux”), at the international airports, major towns, and border posts.
Customs, Duty-Free Item
Personal effects, including binoculars, cameras and film, may be brought in free of duty. A custom’s bond may be demanded from those bringing in video/ filming equipment, radios, tape recorders and musical instruments to ensure the goods are re-exported. Firearms require a special permit. Duty free allowances are 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 250 grammes of tobacco plus one pint of spirits, provided the traveler is over 16. Visitors buying local handcraft must keep sales receipts for presentation to customs officials on departure.
Electricity 230 volts AC, 50 Hz
